Remember last time I promised you a surprise? Here it is: the „Kobold Racer“!
A „Kobold“, apart from being also a Kobold in English, is the name of the most famous German vacuum cleaner. The sorts of machine housewives usually fiddle around with, producing horrendous noise, wild movement, and lots of unrest, mild panic, especially in pets, and no noticeable dramatic result.
Just like a racecar.
Perfect name for a female owned early short wheel based 911.
This year will be the first official season for the Kobold Racer and me, and we have some fantastic, amazing events and Co-drivers in store. (Stay tuned it will be worth the wait)
The car came home yesterday, with a beautiful, shiny, glorious new engine, made by my friend and 911 magician Marc (ask me if you want to know more about him).
This engine this looks cleaner, neater and more efficient than my kitchen. The shiny trumpets alone are full of promise of the purest, sexiest, sound of fresh air lured into finely tuned Carburettors. Yum!
And now this delicacy of engineering and craftsmanship must be run in.
And here comes why its better to be a woman when you run in an engine: doing this you have to cover hundreds of miles, or better thousands of Kilometres driving on low revs. That’s a bit boring. (Actually very very boring and time-consuming). And because it’s a bit boring its perfect to spend this time chatting: Women’s favourite pastime. (Yes yes!) Being the lucky person I am, I have many beautiful, kind, tolerant even mildly car curious, girlfriends, who get invited one after the other to spend the idle hours of the day in my car, driven around by me talking and chattering and discussing, and again not listening and commenting: and giggling and eating chocolate and cake and having tea. Just like most afternoons, (if they are well spend.)
For most of them its a first timer in a race car and the first question is:” phew, how do you get in?” (Climb over the roll cage.), second question: ” uuuhhhh, how do you fasten the seatbelt?” (One after the other), third question, ” Why is there a fire extinguisher? Are we going to die?!” (Yes, surely) “Whoa, the interior looks so stark” (no comment), “mmmhh this smells like my fathers old car when I was little” (my favourite comment, old 911s are just the best smelling cars in the world). And then, when I turn the key to the beast in the back, the shrieks of astonishment, fear, regret, protest, will not be understood anymore, and we spend the next hour rolling through beautiful Eiffel Landscape. This is fun for me and an adventure for my friends, and probably the most agreeable way to run in an engine.
Wait till April, when the “Kobold racer”, with its wonderful new engine will give its first performance at a world-class event! I can’t wait!
